October 3rd, 2008
Let me just say I couldn’t have come up with a better proposal myself. Jeff did such an amazing job! I am so surprised he pulled it off because I am not the easiest person to keep a secret from. I turn into a detective and just try my best to figure everything out.
So, you may ask, how did he do it?
He told me his friend Jon was having a birthday on October 3rd and it was semi-formal. Jeff always likes to do dress-up dates so he definitely wanted to make sure I was dressed up for the proposal. At first I was a little curious why Jon would have a semi-formal birthday, it just seemed a little strange to me. However, Jeff added so many details to hist story which helped convince me it was Jon’s birthday. He even showed up to my house with a birthday card for me to sign.
So on our way downtown he kept getting a ton of text messages and I asked him who kept texting. He told me Lisa (Jon’s wife) sent him a message to let him know that they were running late. We were almost downtown and, apparently, we had a whole hour to kill. So Jeff asked if I wanted to go to Loose Park and take a walk around. I was in for it. We always love taking walks around that park. As we were heading to the park Jeff became really quiet. I asked if everything was okay and he was said, “Of course.”
When we got to the park, we started walking to our favorite tree. It was so beautiful outside. It was about an hour before sunset so the light was just perfect. As we were walking to the tree the sun was right in my fact so I couldn’t see anything. It wasn’t until I was about 20 feet in front of the tree when I looked up and saw tons of Japanese lanterns hanging in the tree. I looked at Jeff and said, “What’s going on? What is this??” As I continued to look there were several framed photos of us hanging throughout the tree. I looked at Jeff and said “Hey those are pictures of us!”
He picked up a book that was on the tree and handed it to me. It was a really neat custom made hard bound photo book. He put tons of pictures of us along with a great story. He read it to me with hangs shaking and all. It told our story and how our relationship grew and grew and on the last page was a picture of a ring. He then knelt down on one knee, told me how much he loved me, and knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He held up the ring that was pictured in the book and asked me to marry him. With tears filling both of our eyes I said “YES!!”
He stood up we hugged and soaked up the moment as much as we could! I turned into photographer mode and started taking pictures of the tree, with all the beautiful decorations he had put in it. It was amazing. I remember at this point I looked across the park and saw his sister, Faith, peeking up behind a tree.
I was so happy to know that she had been back there photographing it the whole time! I had always wanted the proposal to be photographed! It was so hard for me to leave that spot, I just didn’t want that moment to end. He told me we had to go though because there was a limo waiting to take us to dinner. We got in the limo and drove around for about 30 minutes. It was so great because it gave us a chance to soak in everything.
We then went to Plaza III for an amazing dinner. When we got to our table I saw a dozen roses on our table. He just thought of everything! I had so much excitement that night. I felt like I could burst! After dinner I asked if we could stop by my Mom’s house, I just couldn’t help sharing that moment with her.
Just when I thought it was over we got to my house and he surprised me with a DVD slide show he made for me. The title was “She Said Yes!!” It was a very fitting title for the moment. The slide show contained several pictures and videos of our relationship. It was really awesome to watch and remember all the amazing times we had together.
Thanks to my amazing fiance the proposal was like a dream, more than I could have ever asked for!
We are so incredibly happy and can’t wait to get married!
